Oncolytics Biotech (ONCY) Secures New Patent

Oncolytics Biotech Inc. (Nasdaq: ONCY) announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a new patent broadly protecting the company's proprietary manufacturing process for pelareorep, its investigational, systemically active immunotherapy. The newly issued patent covers key methods used to produce pelareorep and is expected to provide intellectual property protection into 2044, safeguarding the company's ability to consistently manufacture the product at commercial scale.
Oncolytics also noted that a previously filed method-of-use patent application directed at pelareorep's use as an immunotherapy remains under review and, if issued, is expected to extend protection into 2046. The company plans to file additional patent applications this year aimed at expanding the pelareorep estate across further therapeutic applications, treatment settings, and combination approaches.
CEO Jared Kelly framed the milestone as part of a broader strategy to build a durable patent portfolio as the program advances toward potential registration and commercialization. He emphasized that the new patent strengthens protection around manufacturing and, combined with the pending method-of-use application and planned filings, supports the long-term value of pelareorep.
