Apple’s incoming chief executive, John Ternus, is taking the reins from Tim Cook, who has run the company since 2011. Ternus is a longtime Apple employee who was in charge of hardware, which should be useful since dozens of new products are about to be unveiled. While everyone else is chasing artificial intelligence dominance, Apple is going big on gadgets. This week on Everybody’s Business from Bloomberg Businessweek, hosts Stacey Vanek Smith and Max Chafkin talk with Mark Gurman, who writes the Power On newsletter, about the future of Apple and how its slow uptake on AI could work in its favor given the public backlash against wearable tech. Then, Max and Bloomberg News senior editor Jason Gale discuss their recent profile of virologist Bob Garry and what his experience could mean for other US scientists. After decades of groundbreaking work on HIV, Ebola and other deadly viruses, Garry found himself in a storm of controversy surrounding the origins of Covid-19 when he published a paper concluding that the coronavirus was not lab-grown. In response, the Trump administration stripped Garry of his funding, and he has been harassed, even receiving death threats. Listen and subscribe on Apple, Spotify, iHeart and the Bloomberg Terminal.
