But this company just keeps committing crimes. During a brief web search, I found three charges that ranged from smuggling to accounting fraud. And earlier this year, the co-founder of this company found himself in jail for smuggling. And folks, these charges are probably only scratching the surface... My Nearly $20 Million 'Bar Tab' With Stansberry Research I'm an ordinary guy – a reader like you. Its employees counted sales of warehoused goods that customers hadn't yet received. And it misused a marketing program to obscure the total amount of its liabilities. Of course, the SEC claims that the former CFO knew of this behavior... and didn't take action to fix the fraud.  Folks, these are both Federal offenses. And we're not done... Just earlier this year, Super Micro co-founder Yih-Shyan Liaw and two others were charged with smuggling more than $500 million of the most powerful semiconductors to China. This included Nvidia's B200 chips.   As you can imagine, investors have been wary. Super Micro's stock is only up 2% this year. That's not what you'd expect from a tech company in the ongoing AI megatrend. And a tool added to the Power Gauge by my colleague, Joe Austin, shines a unique light on this stock. Joe is behind our "Earnings Quality" ("EQ") filter. The EQ filter finds companies with unhealthy cash spend or an odd level of accruals. As I said, Super Micro caught SEC attention for abusing accruals in 2020. So, there's a chance that the company's books aren't in the greatest shape. If you couldn't guess, Joe's EQ filter flags this. It gives SMCI the lowest possible EQ rating – "very low." Naturally, that suggests that you may want to think twice about investing in Super Micro. At least until it gets better at managing its money. Thankfully, this EQ filter rates more than just Super Micro.
