Few groups enjoyed the early months of Donald Trump’s return to the White House with as much gusto as the tech and finance executives who helped put him there. But the president’s failure to follow through on his campaign promises to everyone else — mainly to lower prices — combined with the deep unpopularity of his trade war and real war on Iran, has led to a backlash. Now Trump’s wealthy backers, especially AI industry CEOs, have been subjected to withering attacks by Democratic congressional candidates (and even a few Republicans), all of whom promise a crackdown on big business if they’re elected.

This week, Abdul El-Sayed won a tight race in the Democratic US Senate primary in Michigan on a progressive platform that included taking on monopolies, taxing billionaires and regulating AI. Meanwhile, in the Florida Republican primary for governor, extreme-right candidate James Fishback is attracting a large number of young men with racial provocations and a call for a ban on data centers.

This week on Everybody’s Business, Businessweek editor at large Wes Kosova joins podcast hosts Max Chafkin and Stacey Vanek Smith to discuss what these developments mean for big business.

Also this week, we tackle the state of the nation’s food supply with Bloomberg Businessweek food columnist Deena Shanker, starting with a look at a new cooking show hosted by, of all people, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
