This week’s edition is live, with a gift at the end for readers 🎁 $17 billion has been distributed to individual wallets since 2020. 6,948 wallets received more than $100,000 from a single drop. Most of them are not millionaires anymore. Distribution is not wealth. Most farmers who “won” the airdrop game ended up with a fraction of what their wallet showed at peak. Some ended up with zero. We pulled on-chain data from 79 major airdrops to figure out what separates the wallets that kept the money from the wallets that didn’t. Four rules came out. None of them are about farming harder.
1. What every airdrop screenshot hides.Look at any major airdrop list since 2021. A majority trade below launch price. Many below 10% of launch. The farmer who received $100,000 in tokens and held “because the chart looked good” usually ended up with $10k to $20k. Sometimes zero.
Paper wealth is not wealth. Realize it or lose it. 2. The 5 wallets that claimed everything.Top five wallets each claimed 30 to 34 distinct airdrops over five years. They do not look like sybil farms. They look like a specific type of user. Four behaviors show up across all of them. Real size. A small number of wallets with meaningful capital. Not a hundred wallets with $50 each. Real time. Months of position holding before distribution. Not bridge in, claim, bridge out. Concentration. Six to ten protocols. Not sixty. No quest grinding. Early entry. In Optimism before Airdrop 1. In Solana before Jito. In Hyperliquid from week one. The pattern is clear. Stop farming. Start early. 3. You’re farming the wrong thing.You don’t farm airdrops. You farm protocols. By the time a project announces a snapshot, your allocation is decided. By the time it announces a claim window, the top tier is already filling. The window for outsized rewards closes long before most people know it exists.
Solstice gave us a live demo few days ago. The project teased its TGE on April 26. At a $150M mid-point FDV (Polymarket’s median), Cohort 1 wallets sit on $430,909 in tokens. Cohort 6 wallets sit on $47. Same airdrop, ~9,000x gap. The cohort was decided months before the announcement.
You must farm protocols that are not hyped yet, but could become hyped. Hyperliquid was not hype before the airdrop. Speed wins the exit. Position wins the entry. Position is the only part you can fix months ahead. 4. Win the next one. The 2026 playbook.Two questions matter before any 2026 drop. First: which protocols in your current position mix will give enough tokens worth your time, and is your usage deep enough to qualify for the top tier? Real size, real time, real concentration. If the answer is no, fix it now, not the week of the announcement. Second: Stay in the lane, don’t miss any sign agreement or something for the airdrop. People lose millions not signing for airdrop before deadlines. (Otomato solves that, giving you reminders about important position you have) The pipeline is dense. If you hold seriously in DeFi, you are already eligible for at least one drop that has not happened yet. The hard part is knowing which one, and how strong your position is relative to the wallets that captured the last five years.
