Crypto News: How this business got a link from the Guardian's website... accidentally

One of our clients is in the gambling space.

This makes it pretty tricky to get links, because people are always cautious about linking to sites related to gambling.

So we're always on the look out for news stories that we can piggyback to get coverage.

Let me explain:

A while back, the Content Marketing Ninja working on their campaign noticed that there was a lot of chatter online about 'Loot boxes' in computer games like Fifa.

Basically, these loot boxes allow you to spend money to potentially receive rewards. The chatter was about whether these should be considered 'gambling' and regulated accordingly.

We wanted to piggyback on this chatter so we conducted a survey to ask the public whether they thought these loot boxes should be considered gambling. The results came back that 60% of people thought they should.

We wrote the results up in an article on the client's site, and did outreach to get it a ton of coverage.

Then, a while later, we noticed it was still being picked up!

One of the places it got picked up was in a Guardian article:

We did nothing for this coverage. It happened naturally because we'd produced the data.

When you create some genuinely useful data about a trending topic, you'll often get this sort of ongoing visibility from it.
