The biggest crypto heist. Ever.

In the crypto world, a lack of experience or competence isn't always a barrier to fortune or notoriety. 

Take the case of the 2016 Bitfinex hack, in which 119,754 stolen coins would eventually grow in value to $8 billion — making the heist the largest in history. 

The security team hired to get to the bottom of the case had little to go on, but eventually, an Internal Revenue Service agent working from his Michigan basement had found a clue. It tied a seemingly unlikely couple to the deed — and touched off a major investigation.
