Across the US, state departments of transportation are scrambling to determine whether they can proceed with projects funded by the Biden administration's signature infrastructure bills. Shortly after taking office, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders attempting to claw back funds for projects connected to "climate change," "equity," and other progressive priorities. 

But one prominent New York State transportation project championed by the Biden Administration is now on hold for a different reason, write Benjamin Schneider. It was part of Biden's Reconnecting Communities program, meant to address the harms caused by planners who routed freeways into historically Black and low-income communities during the urban renewal era of the 1960s.
