Deepseek AI Act: The Rise of AI Regulation

Senator Hawley has Proposed legislation called the “Deepseek AI Act” to regulate AI development and deployment in the United States citing national security concerns. The Deepseek AI Act is aimed to combat potential threats posed by AI-driven platforms, ensure transparency, protect privacy rights, and prevent adversarial nations from acquiring American AI innovations. The Act seeks to increase federal oversight, mandate disclosure of AI tools, provide whistleblower protection and advocate export controls and national security measures. Support for the Act comes from concerns about deepfake technology, biased algorithms, and foreign intervention in AI. Some tech companies are wary of the Deepseek AI Act, fearing compliance hurdles and stifled innovation.
