Key ballot measures and local races to follow

Also today: How we're mapping the 2024 election, and an immigrant workforce thrives in Georgia's MAGA heartland.

For most voters in the US, choosing between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is not the only consequential decision to make in this year's elections. Also on the ballot are a number of local races and ballot initiatives that have resonance outside their region.

Races for mayor in San Francisco and prosecutor in Los Angeles serve as referenda on progressive approaches to policing and crime, while a sheriff's race in Maricopa County, Arizona, will have major implications for immigration enforcement. Voters will also consider questions that touch on everything from rent control to the electoral process itself.
