Kamala Harris spent much of her recent debate with Donald Trump making the case that the election is fundamentally about character and temperament. That sentiment has great appeal for Democratic loyalists, but a recent poll shows a good chunk of likely voters want to know more about who the vice president is and what she'd do as president. She has precious little time left to tell them.

Would Americans be electing Harris the liberal, or the moderate? The idealist or the pragmatist? She's not given many interviews since becoming the Democratic nominee, betting that being pinned down on policy may not be to her advantage. But she has been in public life for decades, and that history offers some indication of what a Harris presidency might look like.
