It wasn't too long ago that Donald Trump considered crypto a crime-riddled scam, calling B.S. on token promoters and criticizing valuations made out of "thin air" while in office. Over the weekend, the former president's speech at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville capped his complete about-face on the asset class: "If Bitcoin is going to the moon… I want America to be the nation that leads the way," he said.

There's been a lot to seduce Trump to the cause, including millions of dollars in campaign contributions, but there is something else that played an important role in his conversion to crypto believer: Flattering images of himself. Insiders say he fell in love with Trump-themed NFTs, and that passion turned into a broader appreciation for the industry. Now, crypto heavyweights are lining up to return him to the White House.
