Plan for Silicon Valley-backed city heads to voters

A group backed by Silicon Valley investors aiming to build a new city from scratch in California's Solano County has collected enough signatures to place a key measure on the upcoming ballot. If approved, the initiative would pave the way for construction to begin by overturning decades-old restrictive zoning laws limiting development outside existing cities.

The proposed 17,500-acre development is expected to house 50,000 residents. Backers say the project would help ease California's housing crisis, but many residents have expressed concerns over its impact on the environment and the local community.
